Re: Plenum stuck

On the injectors, GENTLY twist them and gently rock them side to side. They will loosen so you can pull them out. If they’re really stuck, squirt a little PB or something around them with a straw - just a little - then twist and rock them again.

The tubes on the ends are part of the injectors.

Re: New Member with Description of Recent Astro Purchase

Great to be here. I'm in the northwest corner of Connecticut. The Litchfield hills area. I'm originally from Long Island,NY so this is like Alaska to me...another reason I went for the AWD. I’m from Simsbury, so not far. My mom lives with my brother in Simsbury now. The AWD has never failed me, eve...

Re: 2004 Cargo WIP

Sorry to hear about your dad. I lost mine after a 13-year fight with Alzheimer's just about 6 years ago. After the 6th or 7th beer, my mom asked my brothers and me if we really thought we should have another. After glaring at her, cutting our eyes at her and telling her to go away, we each polished ...

Re: What have you done with your other vehicles today.

Put the code reader on the daughter’s Xterra. Vent valve control solenoid needs to be replaced. Apparently it’s a common problem on the 3.3L V6.

Got it ordered and it’ll arrive Friday.

Re: Mike's 1992 Astro Resurrection / Bucket List

I now have 2 things stuck in my brain. "Sound snot (at Monkey Ward we called it monkey snot, VERY handy stuff to have stuck to the bottom corner of your toolbox for when you need a plug) and "Hypnotized". Haven't heard that one in years, but I'll have years worth of it on repeat in m...

Re: Finally made the call on a 1998 Astro AWD

Welcome!

That is pretty danged clean - it must not have been a work van for long. Also must not have been in Chicago for long.

Re: New member from Salida, CO 2003 AstroAWD

Welcome! You've made a pretty good start.

I don't think that rust is terminal - yet - but I would start brushing/scraping, converting and topcoating those areas to prevent actual damage. Doing a small section at a time would keep it from being such an awful job.

Re: Gas Mileage

I don't remember seeing it mentioned, and I'm not going to read the whole thread again, but what happens if you disconnect the MAF sensor and take it for a good, long highway drive?

Re: The Astro/Safari Community in Real Life

I get people in other Astros waving or shouting all the time. My husband - who talked me into buying the first one - loves it and waves back when he sees it.

Re: Astro 1999 AWD Star Craft Enhancement V6

Congrats! You found a really good one. My Astros have all cruised at 80-85 mph without struggle - and without a turbo. Mine aren't conversion vans with all kinds of extra weight, though. I pull the third-row seat first thing, too, because we don't need the seating room (there are only 3 of us) and w...

Re: Spider or no?

You can use the bracket. You don't need the bolt the bracket slides onto; it's already installed on yours. The bracket is identical to the one in which the current spider is mounted - when you pull out the assembly, the bracket comes with. I used the new bracket as a convenience - I didn't have to p...

Re: Crank no start, help with diagnostic

A lot of people have had problems with the wiring going to the crankshaft position sensor recently. They're exposed to road yuck - water, salt, etc. I'd check the wiring going to the ICM and to the coil as well. Those wires are exposed to a lot of heat and the loom they used on my '05 is really infe...
