Re: What have you done to/with your van today?

Yeah, I can’t do the aftermarket exhaust crap. I put a Walker QuietFlow muffler on my ‘02 and I still have the stock muffler on the ‘05. When it rusts out, I’ll put the QuietFlow from the ‘02 on it. I like music. I don’t want to have to blast the music so I can hear it on the highway. As you say, th...

Re: Hello from northern Vermont

Welcome! I'm from northern CT, but I moved down here for college and got stuck. I hate the weather here; I'd rather be there, but that's neither here nor there  By the way, we have one rule here: you must post pics. Lots of pics. Find the build forum and post pics and thoughts. Lots of guys hav...

Re: No rear heat after (attempting) changing engine coolant

Keep changing it until it runs clear. Then fill with regular green coolant and distilled water, not Dex-Cool.

Re: Tappa tappa tappa mechanical sound, now a P0442

I guess it could be the solenoid, but I don’t remember hearing a noise from mine.

Not all the time. Hmm. Any specific circumstances when you hear it or is it totally random?

Re: 1988 Chevy Astro Van $100

What really has me baffled though is how the driver side is clearly cargo but the passenger side is clearly a passenger model. A window on the slider was an option for cargo vans (not many plumped for it, but some around here did). Slider's open, so the window is at the back and makes it look funny.

Re: Tappa tappa tappa mechanical sound, now a P0442

P0420 is the gas cap. P0442 is the purge solenoid under the hood. 03-OldVNewPurge.jpg 04-NewPurge.jpg As you can see, it's on the passenger side of the manifold, under the oil dipstick tube. Easier to get from the back, but that pic's from the front. This plastic tube under the distributor is what g...

Re: No rear heat after (attempting) changing engine coolant

It's possible the engine flush loosened some crap that's clogged up the heater control valve.

Re: Question about AC Delco Starters

I went with AC Delco Professional, Gold 337-1032 starter for my '05. Amazon claims the 337-1113 doesn't fit my '05 but does fit my '02. 02_OldVsNew.jpg https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007QBT5E8/ref=au_as_r?_encoding=UTF8&Make=Chevrolet%7C47&Model=Astro%7C415&Year=2005%7C2005&ie=UTF8&v...

Re: AC wasn't working, got new compressor, still no AC

That ac cycle switch is always my first test. Located on the accumulator. Yep. Easy to jump the electrical connector with a paperclip. If the compressor comes on and cold air blows when you install the paper clip, that switch is bad. Fortunately, it's user-replaceable - no refrigerant leaks when yo...

Re: What have you done to/with your van today?

My 2000: * Dead battery this morning (possible bad alternator) Turns out NO issue with the alternator , it is performing perfectly and charging to full capacity. What was odd is that with the key off, it was the same red light I get when accy is on (which is kind of funky on my ignition). I don't k...

Re: What are Dutch doors good for?

I'll take Dutch doors any day - and twice on Sunday - vs barn doors. Much better visibility, some rain protection when standing under the hatch, rear wiper and rear defogger.

Did I say I like the Dutch doors?

Re: What have you done with your other vehicles today.

Changed the oil in the Jeep while my husband and daughter replaced the purge solenoid and filled up the AC on her Xterra. She's had a light on for a while. Oh, and they checked the radiator, too. Hers has top and bottom tanks (instead of side tanks) and it had been leaking. I bought a new radiator, ...
