Re: Advice Needed: Am I Crazy?

Just remember yes it is in great shape. But at the mileage everything gonna need replaced Bam Bam Bam one right after another. So your not getting out of building one by paying top dollar. Find one cheap with trans or motor out(broken) already. Since your willing to pay obviously. Stick a new motor ...

Re: Differential information

7.5 and 7.625 are the same carrier. Ring gears both interchange. Just in case you run across that.

Re: Sliding door window not tight to seal

Under the lower part use shims that will draw it in and tighten it up. More at the top I think makes it come in more.

Re: gitt'n harder to find stock size boots

Shop online at wal mart. They got mastercraft that are the best in the sizes the big chains are dropping. Order online and have them installed there. Wal mart is changing. They got fenders type bodyparts. They are competing with Jegs and summit with hot rod stuff. They got boat parts. and they are s...

Re: Best route? Buy it pre-fixed, or buy it post-fixed?

These are all your calls. Nobody can make them for you. You will not find a cheaper no matter what you got to put into it, to maintain vehicle. Once they are right they last forever. Rust is the only issue. Make sure it has none. So you have a good base to work with. 180 thousand mile van that is un...

Re: Changing tranny fluid on low miles safari

Drain the pan change the filter and put it back together. That is a change. The torque converter still is full. Ask when you buy fluid how much to get. Flush is when they hook a machine to it and forcible push fluid through the trans. I worked at firestone. I seen many many cars and truck drive in u...

Re: Changing tranny fluid on low miles safari

First change of fluid and filter is 90 thousand miles. Mine been longer than that a couple times. It has 330 thousand on it now. So if you want to it is up to you, I sure wouldn't flush it. Just keep it changed, Flushing knocks debris out in chunks which if they block the valve body trans is toast. ...

Re: Questions regarding alternator upgrade

Biggest thing to upgrade is a bank of batteries. Power inverter will do a battery in quick. Some deep cycle batteries so you don't destroy them. A 1500 watt electric heater will kill a battery in minutes. 100amp alt will keep it charged if the engine is running. A light electrical load is still gonn...

Re: Ignition Open Circuit

Behind the battery is a power distribution. Not sure what it look like on your year. Bunch of red big wires. Go though and check all the grounds to the body. On the fuse box under the dash is a open Ign spade. Hook a multimeter there and check while your turning it on. See if the voltage there drops...

Re: 1985 86 Astro 4 speed Saginaw

We are to the point where we need serial numbers and pictures. I am sure it is a vega style for the lower gears. But in all honesty I don't think you will ever find that diagram and part number for a van. Unless the dealer has it still. Go to the parts counter find a good one and work with them. 3 g...

Re: 1985 86 Astro 4 speed Saginaw

Sorry didn't know they had that option. Anyway it is the same as truck and vega, chevelle the rest of them. How many rings does the input shaft have. That tells you the gearing. Once you know that getting the gear is easier. Work with the year of trans and that. I would be interested in seeing what ...

Re: Groaning New Summit LS Differential and Ring & Pinion

Vans are loud anyway. The rear end they use is loud. They get louder breaking in then get quieter. 10 thousand miles it should be settling down. If it is a slight whine as your say. It is fine it will always make some noise. The binding cornering. It is called chatter on a clutch type posi. Once the...
