Re: Brewtus: 1987 Astro Aerolite Rebuild

I have seen the coupling of the wires on the tank, I believe this is not a good thing. This will get corroded for sure in the future and you will be stuck, with taking the tank down, I would for sure use solder and shrink sleeve. I can tell you that I cut so many couplers from my van, that you woul...

Re: My Safari was a victim of a hit and run, what now?

I think starting fresh might be a good bet, too. I bet coming out to a mashed up vehicle is confusing and painful! Keep us updated on how everything turns out (if you get reimbursed).

Re: Brewtus: 1987 Astro Aerolite Rebuild

Thank you to our supportive Astro-Safari community. I have joined a couple other forum sites for other vehicles and AstroSafari.com has been much more enjoyable to participate in. I appreciate everyone's positive way of interacting with one another as well as overall helpfulness. <3

Re: turning rear seat lengthwise

Hey Tstol, sounds like it'd be a cool layout to have. I am unfamiliar with having seen any set up in such a way but imagine it would be pretty simple if you have a friend of someone who can weld a few things together for you. I think a simpler solution would be to remove the seat completely and buil...

Re: Brewtus: 1987 Astro Aerolite Rebuild

Update: The van is about half way coated with POR-15. I'm planning to finish up painting the rusty bits before going over almost everything with some of the rubberized undercoating. I'm hoping to prolong the life and appearance quite a bit with this step! I painted over the fuel tank but was ...

Re: Alpine's 1995 AWD Safari Adventurevan Build Thread

Those S10s are great trucks. They do exactly what you need, but exactly nothing more. Myself at 6'-0" my single cab was getting cramped for sure. But with the 4.3 V6 they can hustle since they weigh nothing. I live in California, unfortunately. But I'd love to get out to ID, I've seen and hear...

Thanks, Will! Vivian loves the huge windows, too! I am concerned about heating/cooling efficiency with such large windows. :violin: Currently exploring some really insulated window options!

Re: Alpine's 1995 AWD Safari Adventurevan Build Thread

Alpine, we have similar stories! I started out with an S10 camper, too. I had a single cab long-bed, which was actually the worst vehicle to road trip in haha (I am 6'2" and there was 0 room to recline). The full length bed was nice for sleeping, anyway. I have included a couple photos of my ol...

Re: Brewtus: 1987 Astro Aerolite Rebuild

The bed over the cab is king-sized and will sit on top of a bookshelf and most of our appliances. We plan to utilize the "tunnel" under the bed (which allows access to the cab) as a place for the dogs to have a bed. The room in the rear corner is the shower and the rest is our living/cooki...

Re: Brewtus: 1987 Astro Aerolite Rebuild

Here are some 3D concepts of the finished product. I use a free 3D creating tool called "SketchUp," if anyone is interested in trying it out themselves! The "realistic" photo is just a simple rendering of the finished look. We may go a more angular route than round, depending on ...

Re: Brewtus: 1987 Astro Aerolite Rebuild

A little side-project action here... Vivian and I pulled the Jeep into the garage so I could focus on fixing it up and have one less thing to worry about. I got it running and gave it a bath. Hopefully I will have some more time to focus on the Astro with the garage being spacious once again.

Quite the project. Keep up the good work and watch out for Jeeps they slow you down. Hey Ken, I am totally beginning to understand what you mean by Jeeps slowing down the important (Astro) projects haha. At least it fits in the garage :) Hey Will, I am super happy with being able to park it in the ...
