Re: Parking brake hand lever pulled out

Yes your correct, its more a hand pull knob than a lever. With the brake release lever disconnected the parking brake works, but I need to reach under the dash and pull back on the release now.

I'll post a photo of what the knob looks like now and how it's not sitting properly in its place

Re: Parking brake not engaging

(I edited the original post to reflect the problem that I'm having, but cannot delete this one. Sorry for the redundancy) I figured out what is causing the problem. When I reattached the parking brake release cable to its housing clip the hand lever doesn't seat back in properly. It sticks out by a ...

Parking brake pull handle pulled out

I was over-enthusiastic with pulling on the parking brake hand lever and as a result, it pulled out of plastic housing. Nothing seems to be broken, but I can't get it to seat in all the way. It sits proud of where it should rest by a few inches. Does anyone have any experience with getting that leve...

Re: No speedometer/odometer 91 astro

It's not throwing any codes fortunately.

From what I've read a 91 should have its VSS behind the instrument cluster. Are there components down at the transmission that I should be checking out too?

No speedometer/odometer 91 astro

I recently purchased a 91 astro van with non-functioning speedo/odo/trip-meter. All the other gauges on the dash work and there are no issues with shifting. Im wondering if anyone has a fix for this? I haven't opened up the instrument panel yet to see if all the cables are connected and intact, incl...

Knock sensor location

Okay, maybe a bit of a silly question, but where is the knock sensor located in a 91 Astro? While working on fixing my sending unit to the temp gauge I figured I should take a look at the knock sensor too. Trouble is I can't seem to find it  From what I can tell it should be located on the re...

Re: Soft brake pedal

Got it! Thanks, everybody. Filled up the front reservoir and that fixed the issue. I haven't had a chance to look at the rear brake pads to see if they are worn out because of the weather, but I will once it clears up.

Soft brake pedal

My brake pedal is very soft and nearly goes to the floor before the brakes kick in. The brakes seem to work fine asides from that. My first thought was that I was low on brake fluid or I have air in my lines, so I checked the two reservoirs. The larger reservoir is filled and the smaller one is comp...

Re: Tail light wiring issues

I had originally bought taillights with an amber lens, but the van isn't wired for having an amber. So not as much of a fix but more of a just buying the correct parts!

Re: Tail light wiring issues

I couldn't find tail lights that are the exact dimensions of the originals, but the ones I went with are the correct width and 3 inches shy in length. I fabricated an aluminum collar to fill up the space around the sides and got it all wired and mounted today. Finally street legal! Now on to the nex...

Re: Tail light wiring issues

AstroWill thank you for the info! This is a huge help.

After playing around with the ground yesterday it makes sense that the Tiger isn't wired for ambers. I have one of the original taillights and it doesn't have an amber light on it either. That should have got me thinking along that path sooner.

Re: Tail light wiring issues

I have the taillights grounded to the aluminum frame of the van body, but I will clean the contacts and double-check the connections today. I will also try running a ground directly to the frame versus the aluminum van body. I will let you all know! Thanks

Tail light wiring issues

Hi everybody! New to the forum, but have worked on my GFs 2003 Astro for a few years and just purchased for myself a 1991 Astro GT Tiger. It's a project van that I'm hoping to get into shape for a road trip back West in 8 months. The previous owner tore out the original taillights and I purchased so...
