Re: **SHOULD I BUY THIS TODAY?!** (PICS)

Thanks for the continued advice guys, I am mostly just doing what you recommend, so you are shaping this build! I have decided to just stick with everything I have and go with the carb. I did decide to add a box to go with the distributor though, based on the recommendation of the guy I bought the e...

Re: Sparkydog's 2003 Safari AWD

Thanks for the info and quick reply! Trying to get stuff ordered to get my project underway. I think I might skip the blocks and just leave it on the ground. I do have a hoist, but that's about it besides a floor jack, so I'll have to get some jack posts and jack stands. I just found this thing thou...

Re: Sparkydog's 2003 Safari AWD

Steve, awesome thread, thanks! When you were going to do the V8 swap, what all equipment did you use to lift the body? Thanks

Re: Front diff punching hole in oil pan

when I built my V8 AWD set up I installed these between the frame and the frame mounts and also added a home made spacer under the transmission/transfer mount. I added poly for the frame mount as well as for the front differential mounts. I now have 1 inch between the engine oil pan and the front d...

Re: Non LS V8 4x4 or AWD oil pan

I am so heartbroken right now. I just called JTR and I guess the 2 oil pans he has left, which I was going to grab both, will only fit an 86 or newer engine that has the 1 piece rear main. The engine I have is older than that and so I believe it's a 2 piece seal. Ugh, so now I have to figure somethi...

Re: Motor mounts

Did anyone figure out if these mounts will work on an AWD van? Trying to make a decision in the next couple days. Was going to buy the oil pan and awd mounts from JTR, but am not sure if this is a better option. I like that these ones from the OP are a little cheaper and include the rubber.

Re: **SHOULD I BUY THIS TODAY?!** (PICS)

Finally got the engine and box of parts unloaded last night. The engine came with a carb, alternator, distributor, and a fuel pump. Not sure we'll want to use this carb, but I found this fuel injection system on ebay (see link below), which is doable at $900. Helluva lot more affordable than the $2k...

Re: **SHOULD I BUY THIS TODAY?!** (PICS)

MM, Mark, and Ray thank you so much for the info, SUPER helpful! After watching some vids and learning a bit this morning, I'd really like to get the Edelbrock Pro-Flo system, but I don't think we can afford $2k for it and there doesn't seem to be ANY used ones anywhere dang it, so I'm going to look...

Re: **SHOULD I BUY THIS TODAY?!** (PICS)

Forgot to mention, no emissions here in Montana to worry about! So, I assume we'll have to do custom exhaust for this engine, but if anyone needs a cadilac converter let me know.

Re: Newbie Attempting the Big One! (Pics Attached)

Hey, I'm a very busy gal fellas, be patient plz! So, I am actually in the Bozeman area, but Montana is a huge small state, so us Montanans tend to travel A LOT from end to end, so I'm sure I'll be in your neck of the woods at some point this year, Bigfork. I've been reading about these 383s, but am ...

Re: new GM 350 crate engine

Musicman, I hear ya and definitely agree about the torque! Appreciate all the advice and insight, I'll definitely have to consider this decision more thoroughly and carefully since it is a big investment. My mechanic doesn't seem like an LS junkie, he even suggested that we could fit a Perkins 2.7 d...

Re: **WILL IT FIT?! **

Thank you so much the quick replies! Mark, your info is super helpful and appreciated!! DC, I know what a 5.7 L31 is lol, however, that engine is for 1996-2002 and my van is a 2003, so I'm not sure it's compatible. **However, does anyone know for sure that a 6.0 will fit though?** I believe it's big...

Re: new GM 350 crate engine

I was so close to grabbing one of these, but decided it's not much better than a souped-up 4.3, based on the advice of my mechanic. I need something that's awesome for rough, steep, mountain wilderness. And if I'm going to spend $5k+ putting in an engine then I definitely want to do it right! My mec...

**WILL IT FIT?! **

Does anyone know if a 6.0 LS engine will fit in my 2003 AWD Astro? I met with my mechanic yesterday and that's what he recommended. He recently retired from GM after 30 years, so he really knows his stuff, but he didn't deal with vans extensively at the dealership. He says that if I wanted to really...

Re: new GM 350 crate engine

I'm thinking of getting one! My van is an 03 though, does anyone know if this engine will work? It says that it's for up to an 02. And I assume I should get the LD / light duty version. Ugh, it's so hard finding an engine! Someone mentioned on here that I should consider getting a 383 since the van ...

Newbie Attempting the Big One! (Pics Attached)

Hi there! So, I had this great idea to get an AWD van to take backcountry adventures with here in Montana. I found a 2003 AWD Astro with 230k miles that was 3 hours away and went and grabbed it for $875, but unfortunately the engine went bad by the time we got it home. Then I found a great deal on a...
