Alright to get started 98 astro 220,000 its been good to us. So i am going to see if we can get some more out of it. I currently have no foward movement only reverse. So the question of the day is , I can get a transmission from a 94 blazer already pulled for $ 200 the guy knows the history on it. Will this one do the job needed or do I need to continue my search. I am willing to pay up to $ 500 for a rebuild if anyone knows of 1 within 150 miles of 30906. I am doing the install. :ty:

I'm pretty sure you need a 96+ tranny....but don't quote me on it.

Hi lewdog

It won't fit, no. 96 and 97 may not fit either, the engine was designed a bit differently at the rear main bearing seal in 98 to accommodate a slightly larger Torque Converter for that year.:)

Thanks Matrixx for the info , Now I am entertaining two possible options

1. Advance auto $ 660 for a used 98 tranny with 129K ( 1 year warranty)

2. located a 4l60e from a 2001 z71 ( been rolled ) for $ 200 not sure of the history

A rebuild with new internals $ 850 +

installed w/ 2 year $ 1600 +

what you think ?

Its back on the road again as of friday. I decided to go with a used one from lkq for $650 with a 1 year warranty. Dont know if this is advisable. just needed to get it going. looking foward to putting many more miles on there. Fixed a clunker ! ;)
