I have a 1991 Asrto Van 3.4 8th digit is Z. The problem is I can start it but the only way to keep it running is to pat on the gas, if I press and hold the accellerator it will die, but if I unplug the vacuum line from the throttle body that goes to the MAP sensor I am able to push the accellerator at any position and it will run with no problem, but it can not idle. I have replaced the Map sensor with a new one and it still acts the same. Someone told me to check the fuel pump because it acting like it is not getting enough fuel, but if that was the case I would think that when unplugging the map sensor it would still be starving for fuel instead of running normal other than not idling. Any help on this problem would be appreciated.

Hi lrowell

Have a look a the exhaust pipe and see what the color is.

When you unplug a vacuum line and it runs better, then, the rule of thumb is, it's running to rich for some reason, but you need to be certain of that.

When was the Tune-Up and Air Filter replacement done? Thanks.:)

When I unhook the vacuum line I can plug off the vacuum port or leave it open and I get the same results. I tuned up the engine since the problem occurred. The tail pipe is just rusty metal on the inside with no sign of it running rich or lean.
