started as a horrible overheating issue.

checked a few things and found that the radiator was plugged from the front. looked like a beaver dam across the whole bottom half. so i cleaned that all out and put in a brand new thermostat just for kicks. nothing helped. so i took out the radiator and had it tested. it was ok. so the last thing i could think of was the water pump they are only 35 bux so i picked one up. the engine is a lot quieter but still overheats in the same way.

i almost forgot before i started messsing with things i bought a backflush kit and installed it and flush the hell out of it. and have many times since.

so i unhooked hoses and made sure they werent all plugged up blew water through them they were fine. blew out heater cores everything flowed good. i just took out the thermostat to try running the car without it and see how things go. i've nothing left to try after that lemme know anything you can think of.

thanks all
jeremy

p.s. it's a 1992 vin z safari with front and rear heater setup tbi

Do you still have the spring in the lower hose?

the spring is still there. no collapse stuff going on. i have noticed that the heater core doesnt seem to have any flow. even with the thermostat being open there's no water running through there. i know as there is a prestone flushing tee installed on the upper hose. it goes straight from the core into some metal tubes that run underneath.. perhaps something is stuck in there?

If the radiator is the original it could be plugged up with rock hard deposits. Some deposites will not flush out. The radiators in these vans are just barely able to do there job. Any amount of plugged cores will render them unable to cool properly.

would it still be bad after i had it flow tested and it checked out? im more than happy to buy another radiator for it.

any idea why there is no flow through the heater core area? water flows through both ways but when it goes through the cooling system there is never anything there.
