THis has been on intermittant problem and now its full blown. 94 astro AWD.

I stated to have problems with one of the the auto start/alarm remotes. The other didn't have this problem. OK bad remote/ battery. Nope It would start and the for no reason die.( or just about die) always thought the installer butchered the installation, but I didn't want to get into that rats nest of untangling. I just avoided using the remote, and all seemed to work.

Well last night my son needed to move it to get his car out. Naturally he hit the remote to start. stated and stalled right out. Now it cranks like a champ but won't start. Remote or with the key. Also no lights, horn radio, remote mirrors, int lights.

I took out the alarm this morning. Didn't help. All fuses ok. Ideas????? Thanks

Hi, well if you didnt have the remote starter installed I would say start looking for a ground wire that became
disconnected.

Now, being you have a remote starter installed there are a number of issues that could be present. The first one I would look for is a hood switch (keeps the car from being remotely started when the hood is open, the others could be programing malfunction in the remote start reciever, if this is the case just unplug the damn thing and everything should work again.
Also being you think the installation was a hack job you could be having an electrical arch issue causing loss of power.
I hope this helps, the next best thing I can say is look at the manual, or contact the manufacturer. YOU COULD ALSO LOOK FOR A THRED ONLINE ABOUT THE BRAND OF REMOTE STARTER YOU HAD INSTALLED.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm with you on the site lookup. Tried that, not much there.(hornet)

I did completely remove the alarm. The only wire that they had cut was a 10 gauge purple power (ignition I believe). I patched that. All the other connections were plactic tees that taped the line, and has a spade plug on the alarm harness. Just unplugged those.

I'll have to start with the ground being the problem. I had hoped that maybe all the things not working would suggest a particular circuit.( Lights, horn, buzzer, radio, mirrors, int lights) I have the 2 GM service manuals, but electric schematics and me don't do well.

Thanks again

Look on the firewall on right side of engine a circiut block of 4 wires is connected to fuse box behind the battery the other sid eof block connects to fuse box inside van ... Astros tend to burn up a connector or two on this block stopping power from getting to all the circuits...lights horn fuel pump relay..... some times you can clean it enuf to get home , but go buy a new one and fix it right so it don't strand you
