95 SAFARI

OK....... New member here. I found this site but looking up parts for my van.
I just bought a 95 GMC Safari SLX model for $300
I have always wanted this type of van and I finally got one.

I gotta ask those, how do I post pics here. Not really familiar but if someone can point me in the right direction.

The van is a simple van but it's going to need some work. The owner passed away a few years ago and the family wanted to scrap the van at the junkyard but didn't want it to go there.

I wanna show my build cause I have seen a lot of information on this site so it's the least I can do.

jb weld time!!!
For what, exactly?

The lower manifold has holes in it. On purpose. From the factory. Sealing a hole that was put there on purpose is kinda silly.

So that's a factory hole?
It's in the same place as this one on the right, yes?

I got scared for a min there..... Thought I was gonna have to seal up some cracks
Interesting - 6 years of listening to people working on their Fuel Spider or LIM related problems...
- never once did I read of this hole or passageways to lower engine ( balance shaft/gallery ).

Breather or Gas Overflow drain... interesting, but that's about it.
Yeah, easy on the JB weld. That hole looks like one of the factory ones inside the intake for draining the oil that condenses in there via blow-by. I think it just looks like broken cast metal because its crusty from the carbon deposit buildup.

And besides...how on earth would a chunk break-off inside the intake manifold by itself? And even if so ... where did the chunk go without blowing up the rest of the engine?
Okay, so I replace the CPI with a Delco one and installed a new Fuel Filter.
I had to replace the connector on the Spider because it broke .... Hooked everything back up and guess what?

It won't start, turns over but nothing.
Fuel pressure, KOEO? Good hot, blue spark at plugs?

How many times did you attempt to start it? Did you allow for the fuel system to prime the injectors, which would take more than one prime cycle (something like 4-5, iirc)?

I gotta find my fuel pressure gauge....
Tried to start it like 7 times now...
I pulled the wires at the Dist and they are sparking....

Maybe I gotta try again
I know there's fuel in the lines cause it does squirt from the schrader valve if I press it.
Well, guess what now?

I broke the Hood Release cable.... Snapped off.

So now I can even open the hood.
LOL, when it rains. Just slide a 13mm socket with an extension between the grill and the hood and remove the two bolts. Takes 20seconds, use a file folder or something to prevent scratches.

I just ordered a 10" extension from HD so ill have that in the morning.
I'm just going to replace the Spider again with another one that I have, just in case you know.
I'll put in an aftermarket one instead of the Delco one. It should have fired right up, I mean it turned before all this running like crap started and now it just sucks.
Getting fuel from the schrader valve doesn't mean you have the pressure required to fire the injector.

You need to test first...why open it up again if that's not the problem?
This^

Test fuel pressure, make sure its staying high with the key on (not cranking) and then observe if it drops while cranking.

I skimmed your thread quick, so forgive me if I missed it. But if you didn't already do the fuel pump/fuel filter, those are within the realm of normal maintenance items that you should replace anyway.

And seeing as you've had a ton of wiring issues, check the wires going to and into the tank.

Okay......

Update.

I have 65 psi with the Key Off but with the Delco spider inside the pressure does drop to 50 after 5 min so it's not really holding. So the Regulator is not really holding pressure after 20 mins it was down to 45

I was able to open the Hood thanks to you guys here!!!!
I put in another spider in cause I had a backup.... and that sucker is leaking instantly from the top (injector)
So I have 2 defects..... that's my guess.
Could also be the damper/pulsator in the tank leaking. That would cause it not to hold pressure.
Yeah, don't assume the leak is under the plenum unless you can see it leaking.

Most of the time, it's the pulsator in the tank - that's the little piece of hose that connects the pump to the hanger assembly. Ethanol eats that piece up like it's candy.

After looking at the Delco Spider there is a crack alongside the plastic housing. So I'm guessing that someone returned it and it wasn't defected out or something but the second had an instant leaking on top so I know that one isn't anygood.
I guess ill try tomorrow with another one lol

At least I got the Hood Open. Dorman Cable ordered so I can close it and open it correctly.
