had it towed yesterday just put a ton of money into it don't want to get ripped off fuel pump was supposed to be new when installed about 1 year ago what else should i be asking / recomending to mechanic so i don't get hammered

Hi and welcome to the board. Was there any problems before the no start? Any check engine light? Did it ever miss or stutter? The fuel pressure should be checked first to make sure it is ok. Not starting could also be an ignition problem. When was the last time it was tuned up? Also make sure AC-Delco ignition parts are used. Cap, rotor button, plugs and plug wires. These vans don't like aftermarket parts. This is just a start. I am sure other members will reply when they can.

Also, what brand of pump was installed a year ago?

Well, the fuel pump making any noise is better than it being quiet. I'm still curious as to what kind of pump was installed in the van a year ago.

There are too many possibilities that could cause the no start and without knowing about fuel pressure, ignition and compression of the motor, its hard to say.

Ask him to check for Codes, Fuel pressure and Spark first off.

thanx for the response triple a auto club towed to there repair shop so i figured i give them a try . after 500 dollar tune up seems to be running good has 151k on it the mechanic said the cap rotor wires plugs all looked original. he said whoever thinks gm makes a bad product is dumb. new gas and air filter as well thanx again looking foward to using this site very cool!
