I need to replace everything from the exhaust manifold back. There's so much muffler tape, pop cans, and baling wire holding together what's left of my exhaust system that you can't see the original pipes or muffler. So I'm booking the van in for some work.

Now...

My future plans include having a hi-perf, rebuilt V6 with the Roots 4-71 blower slammed into my baby (I decided against the V8 swap as a supercharged V6 is funky enough in my books). Since this is planned and budgeted for next summer, would it make sense just to spend the extra now and have a dual exhaust put in so I don't pay extra to have the work done all over again next fall? I was thinking of a high-flow cat, dual pipes with Xover, and Magnaflow mufflers. It's overkill for the current engine, but should put me in good stead in the future, yes?

Best to all,

Sean M.

neutralhills, If in fact that is going to be the best exhaust for your future engine build. Then I say go for it. But, I will caution you as to the fact that you'll find many differing opinions on the v6 blower vs a drop in v8. Hope this helps, Jim

Sounds like a solid performing exhaust system, so if you serious about building the motor then I would do it.

Harumph. Just got an e-mail back from one outfit saying, "supercharger won't fit -- get a PCM tune instead". I happen to KNOW that a supercharger fits on a V6 in an Astro of my vintage 'cuz I've seen them at car shows. Heck, I've seen a supercharged V8 in a 1990 Astro at a car show once (they did have to kiss the aircon goodbye, however). Yeah, it's a tight fit, but that's why we have such an excellent range of cuss words to choose from.

Some people have NO imagination!

I'm not sure how a PCM tune can compare to a supercharger. But yeah, you can make it fit. Here's a video of a big block with a supercharger.

some guy at my work was telling me about some kind of motor mounts or something that lowers the engine about 2 inches to 4 inches. maybe you should look into that.
