So I am hoping someone else has had this issue before, and maybe they can help me out.

When I sold my Jeep XJ, I swapped the Sony headunit out, with the intent of using it in my 1997 Safari AWD. I finally got around to installing it yesterday, and although the headunit works itself...... Every time I turn the van off, the headunit loses all the settings. (station presets, equalizer, etc). Resets to demo mode etc.

I have no idea what's going on, I have the correct wiring harness, I am sure I wired everything correctly, the correct colour-to-colour wiring (I am obsessive about details, so It would have to be a HUGE brain fart for me to miss one)

Am I missing something? Is there some trick to the GM vans with wiring colours or such?

The headunit is a Sony CDX-GT640, an older unit that I like and it worked like a charm in the XJ.

It's little things like this that drive me insane, because I hate having to rip the dash apart again and deal with all the crap, when it should just work! Everything was done right! (well, I guess clearly not.... lol)

Any pointers?

Probably not wired correctly, 1 wire should have constant 12v+ that is what keeps the memory, the other is a 12v+ that is switched with the ignition.

Thanks for all the input folks!

Well the closest guess was AstroWill - turns out the ISO adapter I was using from Jeep days, well when I bought a new male connector to solder into the Sony loom (since the old one stayed in my Cherokee when I sold it), had 2 mixed up wires from the manufacturer. So even though I soldered all the Metra <--> ISO connector wires all right, it turns out the factory swapped the red/yellow wire pin positions on the male end of the connector.

So the solution? Cut, strip, swap and crimp. Bingo, Radio works as it should!

Thanks for reminding me to take a look at the colours and make sure it was getting constant power!

Could always just pop the terminals out of the plug and swap the wires around.

IIRC it only takes a paperclip to pop them out.

Glad you got it fixed and working again, I had one like that on a used vehicle I bought, was quite annoying until I fixed it.
