I sure hope that this doesn't become the norm from the cloudflare gatekeepers:

Edit: This is happening repeatedly while editing posts.

I wrote: "What is 'Dark Mode' ?"

Thanks for the explanation...that makes much more sense now.
I was thinking it was likely something much more different....like the 'dark web' or some obscure internet mode. :banghead:

I hope the platform has an option for "dark mode".
You don't need to wait for the upgrade to get dark mode. I use the browser extension Dark Reader but there are others. Some websites might not be 100% readable in dark mode but it's easy to toggle on and off. Click on the attached pic below to see what your post looks like in dark mode. It's much easier on the eyes.

I also use an adblock browser extension but I have it turned off for this site because I want to support the site with ad revenue. If forum site owners don't get any ad revenue then then the sites shut down or they have to charge a subscription fee. Pick your poison.

Interesting links.

I only used the term "dark mode" because it usually gets me closer to my preference. I'd prefer a term like "normal" or "traditional".

I've been using computers for 50 years and for the first 20 or so it was green or amber or sometimes 16 color on black. I find it easier on my eyes-always have. Early browsers 20-28 years ago were easier to configure to at least make unspecified backgrounds grey, which was better. Now it's more of a hassle, partly because there are more devices to configure.

Since I and many others use tablets and other battery devices, how much light they make directly impacts battery charge and "dark mode" means meaningfully longer times between charging. It's also better for use next to someone trying to sleep as it doesnt light up the whole room (unless you're looking at white vans).

Thanks sadglad, I'll try it. Plug-in count grows... Also, seeing unobtrusive and/or somehow relevant ads is fine with me. Most sites these days hand over ad placement to irresponsible parties who only sell to the highest bidder unless they're pushing really nasty malware and sometimes even then.

Are there any Forum / Sites of yours ( or whomever ) that have already been updated that we might take a look at - offer ideas or otherwise get an idea - how screwed up things will be and how long it will take for the owners to regrasp their long-lost sanity...?

...hmmmmm ?

Is it the same brand of software? I ask because Harmony Central HAD a booming forum. Seems no one EVER came back.

Here is an example site we migrated some time ago. Still active: https://www.wolverineforums.com/

It's a big change to what we have here now, but it's still just forum software. The beats will be the same

It has 'save' and 'share' options under all the comments.
That's super good for those of us who never use a mouse.

I still hope the new software has some sort of like, agree/disagree or thumbs up feature and the ability for members to see who gave that feedback (if they wanted to click on it.)
We all know that words on a screen can't compare with in-person communications - a 'like' button would be helpful.
Without hearing people's voices and tone or seeing their facial expressions and body language, the brain's robbed of the normal info it'd use to process what is and isn't meant by words.
Having the option to 'like' a comment isn't just an informal vote on who gave the best advice, it also lets the author know that you agree with them.
Seeing a like here and there would go a long way towards members getting along.
It'd be especially helpful between members who may assume that they rarely or never agree.

As a deaf person who once could hear and now relies on reading for almost all communication, I can't stress enough how far likes & dislikes, emojis and smilies go towards understanding what is and isn't meant.
The more options that we have to display emotions (or the lack there of) the better communications the forum will have. :2:

And I think that we'd use the smilies more if ALL the options displayed faster.
We should be able to scroll for them or see them all at once, instead of clicking through 11 pages.
It's very hard to pick the best smilie when you have to click and click and can't remember what was where.
Just suggestions :D

New Forum Software Going Live Soon!

Dear Members,

Your new site will be going live soon! We are almost at the starting line and are really excited for you to experience the new community platform.

When the migration starts shortly, the site will be put into maintenance read-only mode (later today or early tomorrow morning) while the migration is underway until completion. We will post when the process is complete and the site is live. We look forward to your feedback and first impressions in the "Community Feedback: New Forum Software Is Live!" thread.

You will have dedicated support to help you transition to the new format.

I will be here to answer your questions and help you every step of the way. :)

- Cricket

Special Note: To avoid any confusion, I will be closing this thread now. All new comments will be posted to the "Community Feedback: New Forum Software Is Live!" thread once the migration to the new software is complete.
