Simple question. Can't seem to find anyone else who's asked it. I have a Safari but want to put an Astro grille in it. Is it an easy swap or am I going to need all new headlights and such?

And... I believe you can STILL buy the 95-05 Safari grill.
I think Both GENS Safari Grilles are better looking than the Astro.
( and easier to paint )

While this is true, from my Chevy guy the grille is $405.98. Was gonna go down to pulll n pay and see if they had any this weekend.

Just remember, you'll need to modify the factory grill to fit in a phantom grill!
BTW: when it comes to "factory grills" (on Gen1 or Gen2) ... I also much prefer the Astro.

And I totally prefer the Safari grille, which is why I'm putting the grille from my '99 onto my '00.

And yep, they're interchangeable. You have to flip the center support (it's marked - one end says GMC, one says Chevy) so the temp probe sits in the right place for that grille and the light housings will NOT interchange (the tabs on the Safari are bigger/different and won't mount onto an Astro), but that's all.

Just to be sure, you referring to the turn signal light housing?
THAT explains why the set I picked up at PnP years ago wouldn't fit my van! I never knew or would have guessed there was a difference between Astro and Safari signal light assemblies.

I had no idea until I tried to put one from the Safari into the Astro to pass inspection...and couldn't.

No. The filler panels are on the housings and just fit, as I recall.

Sorry to rehash an old thread, but I'm about to Safari'ize my Astro.
According to https://www.gmpartsonline.net/ the signal lenses are the same part numbers between Astro & Safari, but they are different composite to sealed headlights.
97 Astro (scroll to composite):
https://www.gmpartsonline.net/v-1997-ch ... rker-lamps
97 Safari (scroll to composite):
https://www.gmpartsonline.net/v-1997-gm ... rker-lamps

But seemingly they aren't the same going from previous posts.
I'm also going from composite to sealed beam, so this will avoid any confusion.
