Has anyone out there installed an aftermarket auxiliary fan to help pull more air to the radiator when the temp gets to a certain level?

I am debating if I should add one. I was towing today and granted it was hot out - I figure that maybe adding another fan with a temp relay on it may help out during the hot times.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

Ive done the same on my 86 truck for heavy towing and it helped a lot at lower off road speeds and trafic jams. Any thing that lowers the trany temp on a GM is worth its price in my book. :2:

I would suggest a aftermarket tranny cooler if you are doing any kind of towing.

Ford Crown vic's electric fan from a junkyard replacing the current fan and with relays will keep those temps down.Build a shourd for it too.

Hi Rob,

Again more HP Tuners stuff. :)

See my towing post on hptuners forum in the V6 general section.

Switch to a 170F t-stat, you can cross this from a Chevy V-8 and get a nice 12x12 tranny cooler. I got my cooler from etrailer.com when it was on sale with free shipping. http://www.etrailer.com/pc-TRAN~HH41311.htm

Even towing in the FL Summer my tranny, using the hptuners, never gets over 192F. ECT when towing with the new T-Stat run about 200-210F in the heat and 180-195 at night.

IAT's with the astro are your biggest headache. I forget the temp off hand but at some point, very common to reach here in FL stop and go traffic, the ECM pulls timing back.

If you or anyone goes with the hptuners stuff, I'll gladly post up my "dash board" for the scanner and my tunes. I have my dashboard configured that the IAT, ECT, Trans, and other gauges turn red at warning points or where the ECM pulls timing.

And no, I don't work for hptuners, just have spent way too much money on bolt on crap and other handhelds that don't work.

I have a tranny cooler.

I have always read that changing the thermostat on late model vehicles just degrades MPGs, and does not help, which shows how much I know.

I am considering the tuning package, just need to justiy to the better half the cost of it all.

Nope, no problem at all here but it is much warmer in FL. In fact the cooler T-stat helped get rid of a lot of high temp ping.

But again, it is freaking hot down here all the time...

I would start with hptuners and run some logs with normal driving and towing driving. Use my "dashboard" and I will evaluate your logs.
