AWD Light on after lift installation

Hello Everyone,

Long-time reader, first time poster. I appreciate everyone who has added their knowledge to this forum. It has helped me out so much!

I just got done installing a lift on my 2002 Astro. My leaf springs were pretty shot in the back, so I added two on each side. That ended up lifting the back up a few inches higher than it was, so I decided to add some body spacers on the front to even it out. It turned out great! It was a fairly long project, but I'm happy with the results. I completed the project late last night, and decided to take it for a test drive. There really isn't much change in how it drives, which I was pleasantly surprised with. The only issue is the AWD light is on now. It was pretty late in the night when this was discovered, so I haven't looked into that much. I did crawl underneath it afterwards to see if any wires unplugged when I was going through the lift project. There were no obvious issues.

Has anyone ran into this issue before, and might know what the culprit could be? Does the AWD light work just like the check engine light, in terms of being able to read a code to narrow the issue down? I have owned this vehicle for 2+ years now, and have never seen the light come on before, or have ever had any issues with the AWD. It does look like it has been replaced prior to me owning it.

Thanks in advance to any feedback that can be provided!

Yes the AWD light works like the check engine light and you can read the chassis codes from the TCCM with an advanced code reader. I use a bluetooth dongle with the car gauge pro app for android.

Any cheap bluetooth adapter combined with software that reads the extended codes should work for you. There are quite a few options out there, and while I still use Car Gauge Pro, it hasn't been updated in a LONG(2015) time and sometimes will crash on me and I'm sure compatibility will continue to get worse as time goes on.

Maybe someone else can chime in on other software that they have used successfully.
Check the wires to the wheel sensors. Since the problem only appeared after the lift, I would suspect that one of the front sensor wires got pulled too hard.

That’s about the only thing that makes sense as being caused by a lift.

Just unplug them, and read them with a meter. The one that reads open needs to be replaced.
You can TRY to splice the wire, but it is really unique. It has a million fine strands and it is incredibly flexible…. Even if you get it crimped, it will only be a temporary repair.

my AWD light came on right after i did my 4" lift. turns out the wire to to transaxle was stretched and tight, causing the connector to be a little loose, After fiddling and removing one wire strap to make the wire looser, the AWD Warning light turned off!

Please disregard my post above… somehow I read “ABS” not “AWD”…. 🙄

Thanks! I'm going to look around under it after work to see what the issue is. I would think it has to be the same situation.

Do you have more information on what you are using to connect your phone to the vehicle?
I've got an older Bluetooth ELM327 like this one.
I wish I had a better update, but the problem seemed to have fixed itself. The next time I started the van, the light was no longer on. I did get under the van and noticed one of the wires was pulled tight. I unplugged it, removed the plastic piece connecting it to the frame to allow for more slack, and plugged it back in. Maybe it was as simple as that? I'll update this thread of the light comes back on, but hopefully this issue is fixed.

Definitely possible, fingers crossed!
