Hey folks: I'm looking to put a manual t-case in to get 4wd/2wd hi/lo. I know there have been postings regarding the t-case swap, but I'm a simple man and I'm confused. I've searched the archives too, but most seem to discuss the NP231.. I've got a 98 astro/4L60E I believe. A friend is willing to sell be a rebuilt NP208. Will this work? What will I have to pay someone to modify? I can bolt most things up, but have no welder or way of fabbing stuff.

thanks,
Gabe

If I am thinking correctly, the NP208 won't give you all the ranges. It is basically a chain connecting the front and rear driveshafts. Hence the AWD name.

Hello, did you ever make the swap. I've been dreaming of a 4WD Safari for years (meaning low range). If it has been done and works good I'm really interested and any suggestion to getting started would be appreciated.

Thx

An NP 208 is a 4x4 transfercase and does have low range, lower than the 203 and 205's but higher than the 241 that replaced it. It is commonly found in 80's fullsize chevy's. It was replaced by the NP241 in the 90's.
