Hi

After a 200 km roadtrip where the speed was nearly 100 mph as the highest, the battery indicator now lights up when the van is just started - It will come on for a couple of minutes (remains on when Idle and driving) and then suddenly go out... The voltage reading also drops to approx 9 volt and returns to normal (14) when the battery light indicator goes out (the battery are bought 6 months ago)

Are the alternator on it's way to "alternator heaven" - or has something come loose? (last time I did a roadtrip and max it a bit - the starter relay went "bad")

Any Ideas of what could be wrong ?

I would take the alternator out and have it tested. But if you are worried about loose connections, check those first. Look for corrosion around the positive and negative posts on the battery also. But usually, when you have a loose connection, it will go from 12v to 0v.

Hi

It's the alternator that's gone bad.... so a new one are in route... I'm planning to change it myself on my 1995 astro - but I'm a bit uncertain how-to get started and especially how-to release the drivebelt...

How is a replacement done ? - anyone has a step by step how-to guide with detailed pictures or video?

thanks...

Hi wiper. changing the alternater is not that hard. procedure on 97 safari is remove the top and bottom fan shroud 2- put wrench on auto tensioner 3- turn wrench "proper" way and belt slips off. - go from there.
