Well, that is a bit unfortunate.
I really like the awd function of mine combined with a G80 and 3.73 gears. I call it a "sure footed" vehicle. Doesn't spin out or have any issues.

I works better than my 2017 F150 in all circumstances. Snow Ice Sand Mud

Just easy on the gas and away we go.

I found one at the scrap yard and will have to keep it for when this one starts acting up.

Is the chain just not being mfg at all?

Absolutely, if you find a low mileage unit, snag it for later.

And...no...no one is manufacturing it. I located one outfit that advertised rebuilt TCs, but when I called, they don't actually have any TCs. I asked about the chains and they said they hand built the last one they did and won't do that any more.

several of us on this forum have searched high and low..none available.

One day someone will find a case of them in a back room and hopefully will advertise, but ours is a pretty small community, especially with the 4472 being replaced a long time ago, and they will probably just get recycled. :(

OK.I sent a request to a chain manufacturer, about a small order(4 chains).Morse, now owned by Borg Warner,no longer makes them. Will report findings here,if they answer me.Also,be aware, there are 2 chains,1 for L vans,! for s10 stuff, cyclones, etc,BUT,supposedly some Safari vans ended up with the s10 version chain.Which also uses different gears. But,if swapping the whole transfer case, not a problem, supposedly. Will respond,when/if I hear back from manufacturer.

Thanks,

I found another transfer case 4472, with a mileage of about 100 thousand. Buy it cheap.

According to the chain I have a question. How to understand which chain I need exactly? HV032 or HV033?

Don't take the chain out of the 100 thousand unit. Replace the whole transfer case with the 100 thousand unit.

The chains are made differently, and you would have problems swapping them out, unless you also swapped out the gears, then would work fine. The one transfer case repair shop I talked to,cut down a larger chain, and "re pinned" one,by hand, said they would never do it again. The USA manufacturer I contacted, for a "small quantity" purchase, for our club, never contacted me back.Did not check my notes, but I think all astros had 1 style of chain, and scyclones and typhoons had the other.

Pulled up the microfiche for it, says GM 15963558

Don't know if I believe them, but they say they have them: https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gmc- ... 63558.html
Only $338.81

Transfer Case Chains
4472 GM 90-97 L Van HV-032 3/8 Pitch x 1-3/4 W x 86 Pitches - RP Note: 2 blue links & rounded link backs straight pitch
4472 GM 90-97 S10/96 Van Safari HV-033 3/8 Pitch x 1-3/4 W x 86 Pitches - RJ Note: 1 blue link & combination round/square link backs random pitch

GM L Van All Wheel Drive Astro, Safari, and Cargo Applications with BW 1372/4472 Transfer Case - HV032 (Straight Pitch)
The HV032 and the HV033 applications should not be consolidated or substituted for each other. The HV032 is a straight pitch design, and the HV033 is a random pitch
design. If the rebuilder uses the HV033 Random Patterned Chain in the L Van application, the vehicle operator may hear an unsatisfactory "moan" or "boom" noise
from the vehicle's driveline during operation.
Conversely, if the HV032 straight pitch chain (all rounded back links) is used in the GM S Blazer truck, the Bravada, Cyclone, and Typhoon applications that use the BW 1372/4472 with a random chain design, the vehicle owner will hear a whistle or whining noise.

I have 1 blue link in my chain.
I think it's - 4472 GM 90-97 S10/96 Van Safari HV-033 3/8 Pitch x 1-3/4 W x 86 Pitches - RJ Note: 1 blue link & combination round/square link backs random pitch.

But i'm not sure that no one disassembled this part earlier.

and I have another thought, if I take another chain instead of my chain hv-033, that is similar in size and just remove the extra pitches.
I looked at the chain catalog and found what looks like in size:

HV-010 - 3/8 Pitch x 1-3/4 Wide x 110 Pitches, Rocker Joint Type
HV-015 - 3/8 Pitch x 1-3/4 W x 98 Pitches - RJ
HV-083 - 3/8 Pitch x 1-3/4 W x 90 Pitches - RJ
HV-106 - 3/8 Pitch x 1-3/4 W x 88 Pitches - RJ

AstroWill (and everyone else...)
I checked with GMpartsgiant.com (your link above). Here is their response:
"Hi Mark,
Unfortunately this part is discontinued"
So...Several of us have hunted high and low and keep seeing chains listed but unavailable from many different sources...Let's just call this once and for all...There are no new 4472 transfer case chains available...anywhere...ever.. The only chance is someone stumbling upon old "new stock" in a warehouse somewhere and somehow making the Astro community aware. In the meantime, we will have to live with the following options:
1. find a junkyard unit in reasonable condition
2. replace the 4472 with something else and make the necessary modifications
We are NOT getting any more new 4472 transfer case chains.

I get it, it's not currently available.

However, that does NOT mean that it will never be available again.
