I've been looking at parts on Ebay, like tail lights/headlights, cold air intakes, grilles, etc. I stopped at a truck accessories store today and was surprised at how much more the prices were. I've seen tail lights on Ebay for $40. and he's telling me $140. He said that the cheap ones the lenses fall off or get moisture inside.
The air intakes are $20. on Ebay and $250. in his shop. Aren't they just an alum. pipe with some clamps and a filter?
Is there that big of a difference in quailty?

I don't want to buy junk but I'm on a pretty tight budget.
Anyone have any horror stories from Ebay parts?

I can't say on the taillights but I have bought a couple of air intake kits off e-bay. Just watch the feedback of your seller. Look to see what other buyers have to say about them. There isn't much to an air intake on my van. 1996. Just the aluminum tube, filter and a homemade bracket to hold it still. I found my tube and filter at a local flea-market for $20. I shortened the tube a little and it fits fine. I know what you mean about money being tight. I would like to have had a Volant cold air intake but I couldn't afford it. Hope the info helps.

i sell custom graphics in my shop and on ebay, theres a big difference on price to be competitive on ebay, in a retail location, your typically looking to make a larger profit because having to deal with customers, phones, insurance, etc. I can cut my costs in half by selling on ebay versus my shop. The bottom $$$ on my end might be smaller but my profit margin is much much higher. My thoughts! :)

Ever part that ive bought off eBay has worked fine. Ive never bought any taillights though. and like tnhillbilly said, look at the sellers feedback, i avoid anyone under 98%. And another thing to keep in mind is the shipping costs. A lot of sellers list there products low so that you think there cheap, but then add more to the shipping price. And one last thing that i highly recommend, if you do decide to buy off ebay, make sure you use paypal! that way you know your covered, if you don't receive your item you'll most likely get your money back. Happened to me 3 times!!

I buy things off Fee-Bay.. and yeah, like they say, watch the sellers rating. You CAN get good deals, like tn and fede say, watch the shipping costs, if it's 5 bux cheaper than buying it local, and they whack you with 20 dollars to ship a 6 ounce part........... they're ripping you off. ( I just bought a distributor -with cam sensor in it- for 56 dollars shipped) cap and rotor have BRASS terminals, I was impressed; Off E-Bay... but, there were some indexing issues I'm not sure would have been there if I'd have bought a Delco part. So watch what you're getting, some things you're going to come out better on than others
