I am getting this code on my van (96 safari), I haven't replaced the sensor yet, but I am wondering...

Would this sensor cause sputtering/surgeing when driving? I know where it is, it's in the distributor, and I've read on how to test it and stuff, but I just havent' done it yet, and it's $100 for the sensor, which i dont have right this moment... so I was wondering if the sputtering/surging that is going on, is all due to that sensor...

Any ideas?

It's hard to predict what problems it might cause. Who says it's $100? It shows as $25-$35 on Rockauto.

I've seen worn distributer gears on 4.3 cause surging and eventually set distributer sync codes. Mark the rotor to position, pull the distributer, and check the gear. How many miles? My brothers 99 ate the gear somewhere after 60,000 miles.
