Spun a rod bearing on my 1993 Astro with a 4.3. I found a full size 1992 pick up with a good running 4.3. I've tried to do some research with out much luck and decided to search for an Astro sight so here I am! I had no idea the different variations of the 4.3 until recently. I've read there were some changes in the 93 model engine but I've not determined if the 93 Astro engine can be replaced with an engine from a 92 pick up. Thanks in advance

Are we talking apples to apples? In other words, are both either TBI (round air cleaner on top and 8th digit of the VIN is Z) or CPI (swoopy intake on top and 8th digit is W)?

If they're both TBI, or if they're both CPI, then yes, they will interchange with no other issues. If you're going to replace a CPI engine with a TBI engine, you'll need more stuff from the donor vehicle.

yes even if they are different injection systems , you can take all the accesories off your motor & put them on the new one . my swap was a 94 vortec motor put in an 88 TBI van . the only thing i had to deal with was the balance shaft in the 94 vortec wouldn't allow my intake manifold so i got one that came from a balance shaft motor , no biggie .

Both engines are tbi. What are the differences between the 92 and 93 engines? In doing searches for replacemant engines I know they are listed up to 92 and then a new sequence starting at 93. I've read about the introduction of the balance shaft and even something about additional tapped holes in the block (for 93) for a strut or transmission support, sorry I don't have that information in front of me as I'm at work. Will the 92 engine have all the required tapped holes in the same location for all the accessories, etc.? Maybe a little cautious as I was told a 91 Camaro 3.1 would be a direct replacemant for a 2.8 in a Trooper. After buying the 3.1 I can tell you that information is not correct, trying to avoid a like situation! Thanks
