I have a 1998 Safari which was running perfectly yesterday, Went to start it today and the battery was dead which I THINK was because the interior lights might have been left on.

Charged the battery (which checks our OK at 12.4 volts) but now I can start the core in a normal manner but I can only keep in running for about 15-20 seconds by pumping the cas pedal but then it eventually dies. The exhaust smells like it's running a little rich. Fuel pump fuse OK. I can repeat the starting process but the results are always the same.

Somehowit seems that the dead battery/recharge and know short running times must be somehow related. No "check engine" like showing.
