Hey there folks,

My son was gifted a 1995 AWD Astro LT, that. Needs. A. Lot. Of. Work. It runs strong and drives OK but the interior is a total disaster. Mice, dirt, dust, some water.

As a parent, I wanted to just say no, but this rig is his dream and I figured there would be a lot of lessons learned from the experience, so, in the driveway it sits.

He would like to do a build out of the interior but a lot of the existing panels and trim are absolutely disgusting. We live pretty far from an major metro area but a 1999 Astro popped up at a pick a part yard last week and I'm thinking of driving the hour each way to pull what I can. I'm a little confused because some parts are 1995-05 and some are 1999-05. I'm wondering what I can take to replace.

Really, If I could take all of the lower interior and swap it out, that would be ideal. The dash is also cracked, some of the switches are missing knobs, etc. etc.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide. I'll be xposting in exterior for some specific parts on the outside that need replacing.

You might check the parts PDF to see if they use the same part. If they don't, the differences are likely minor. You could also remove the existing pats and bring them with you to compare side by side. I've not had to replace any interior pieces in my 95, so I can't really say with 100% certainty what would fit or not.

Parts PDF:

a list of SOME yards, it is FAR from complete:

Doesn't the '95 have Gen I outside, Gen II inside ( and not the conversion style... ) ?

Looking for "chevymaher" pics of his interior. He has a '95 also.

95 is Gen 2 outside, Gen 1 inside. I've not had issues getting parts for mine.

Thanks for the responses. Good info around. The rigs in the yard had interiors that were pretty beat, although it looked like the 2001 had a rear heat unit that is similar to ours. I think we'll strip out all the nasty and then see what we need/can find.

Do not worry, Yours looks ok. I have had front part dash, cables on fire and whole interior have been damaged by heat and by smoke. It comes, after two years of working on it, on the road this month and it is in good shape.
Kid will learn that nothing is for free and will like it even more, if he will make it by himself.

What are his plans for the van? Maybe he'd be better off removing everything from the front seats back(keeping the rear seats if wanted), and designing/building a "new" interior. Lots of folks convert these vans as for camping/traveling or for various other uses. I personally ended up ditching most interior panels and carpeting during my re-do. I'm jealous of the glove box design in the early vans, much better design than what they evolved into IMO.
