I've been having ABS prob. with my astro ever since i got it, bout 5months now, changed a couple of stuff, tires, rotors, drums, pads and shoes hoping it will fix it but unfortunately it didnt. The prob is while im braking slowly once i hit the 5mph range ABS kicks in and wont let me stop, the ABS and BRAKE lights randomly light up, so once it lite up, i took it to a shop to get the codes out, it came out to be Code 265, Electronic Brake Control Module Motor Relay Circuit. What and Where is this?? and Where can i get it??? HELP!!!!!! This prob has almost got me into several accidents!!!

Hi bkzxclusive
Their is a service bulletin on this very subject, here:
Bulletin No.: 02-05-25-006A
Subject: ABS Activation At Low Speeds.

Recommendations are have the 2 front sensors checked for correct current, spacing (between the sensor and reluctor ring on the rotor). Also mentions the possibility of sensors being dirty or rust build up preventing a clear signal to the sensor. If this is checked and all is well, then check the connections to the EBCM . If that all checks out, then replace the EBCM. Hope this helps. Please keep us updated,Thanks.

I understand everything i was looking at, but the prob is i dont know where to start, the mechanic who pulled this code out for me told me to go to an electrician and recommended one for me, so should i go to the electrician? cuz even if i look at the wheel sensors they my not look messed up but they reely are, how would i tell??

Hi bkzxclusive
You need to check current through the sensors. The electrician would be needed if you don't know how to perform the tests. Please keep us updated, Thanks.

Hi bkzxclusive
Their should be an ABS fuse under the dash you can check. I wouldn't disconnect the sensors themselves no. Hope this help. Please keep us updated, Thanks. :)

k guys, srry for all the waiting ive decided to keep trying to fix this problem, i took it to an Automotive Electrician Specialist, and he got the same code and told me that what causes this to happen is that the GM GENIUSES decided to place the ABS pump or the ECBM right under the the truck where water and salt water and all that nasty stuff hits it constantly, so i will try to find one on ebay or if anybody knows where i can get it for NOT retail price, please let me know!!! O and they told me that every company has their own name for this parts, its the ECBM, or ABS pump or computer, or hydroelectric module!!!

You really should not replace that unit until you test the wheel speed sensors and the reluctor rings on the axles. Checking those parts would not cost you anything, replacing the unit does and I'm not convinced that is your problem. Always check the easy (and cheap) stuff first and then go from there.

Pretty much you would look at either spindle and look for the wiring. There will be a pigtail that connects to the end of the sensor. The sensor would point at a reluctor ring. The ring looks like a gear. This ring will be attached to the halfshaft (or the rotor depending on your model). You will be looking for dirt, corrosion, etc. If the gaps in the reluctor ring get filled in with rust or dirt, the ABS system will think that the wheel is locking up and activate the ABS.

Yes, brake cleaner will work fine. And its really important to make sure that every gap on each reluctor ring is free of any debris.
