I know that a number of people have done the V8 swap on the Astro, but I was wondering what engines other than the 5.7 fits the Astro? Is there any other engines that match up with the transmission? I would like to put a newer more powerful V6 in my Astro if there is one that is an easy swap. If not what would be your suggestions for a possible rebuild on the 4.3 to pull some more HP/torque from it while keeping it streetable?

Thanks

Honestly, the only engine that made more power than the 96-05 Vortec 4.3L was the 92-95 "W" motor or the early 90s "B" motor. TBH, it would be easier just to cam the motor you have than to gain 20hp or 5hp respectively.

The rebuild idea was something that I had considered. Higher compression, longer stroke and a slightly hotter cam with a reflash of the computer to make it all work might be the best solution.

What about the 4.2 from the trailblazer/envoy? It has 285HP and I believe 265ft/lbs of torq. There should be plenty available. Being an inline 6 would it be too long and does it match up to the transmission? A four speed was standard on those vehicles, but I don't know if it was the same one as the Astro.

You may have to change the bellhousing/converter to work, not 100% sure. The actual tranny should work though. Besides that, I am also not sure on the length I believe it will be too long without doing something like a pusher fan but you'd have to measure and check. I've never seen an L6 van before tbh.
