Is it worth spending the money on a pair of OEM Astro engine mounts when the time comes for me to swap in the V8, or is there an aftermarket brand that has proven to be good? I don't mind paying more for the GM mounts, but I'd hate to pay more for them if they're coming from the same factory in Korea as the Anchor units.

What mounts have you personally put some miles on with a V8 engine?

*I think I want to stick with rubber. I know that there are poly mounts, but I want to keep the NVH to a minimum.

When I did my RWD swap I found I had 2 options. Cheap mounts with very bad reviews, or genuine GM. I went with GM, not wanting to have to replace them again for a long time. 13K and 3-4 years later they're still holding up just fine. FWIW I used the JTR brackets on the engine side, so far so good.

With the v8 swap, I would reconsider the poly mounts. On my 4.3 I don't care for the poly mounts as much, the 6 is rougher, esp at idle than the 8. However on my v8 Tiger I have the poly mounts and it's very smooth.
Like BK, I also used the JTR engine mount brackets on the engine side, no issues.

I haven't used them yet but I bought the cheap ones, $30 for the pair vs $60 apiece for the GM. I reinforced them by filling the gaps with polyurethane. From what I hear it works pretty well to extend their life and cut down vibration.

When I put my V8 in.. I decided not to "chance it" with cheaper mounts.
I spent a lot of money on the GM original mounts from a dealership.
I still have the unsused $5 Anchor mounts new in the box... lol

Ironically they were made in China...

PS: I used to always pump the gaps inside the mounts with silicone.
Seemed to work and last longer

Isn't that neat? They cut expenses and pass the savings on to themselves. In the big picture, spending an extra $100 in the process of swapping engines isn't a major expense.

Not a V8 swap but relevant. I replaced both mounts a couple yrs ago with cheap ones, chasing a vibration at idle (worse in gear with A/C on).
New ones were worse. Bought GM mounts thru Amazon, about $65 each if I remember correctly. One was old stock stuff (flytag/date/etc) and USA made. Other one was obviously newer and not USA made (seems like China but not 100%).
Anyway, other than the "older" look of the USA part, both were pretty much identical and much better in appearance than the cheap ones. I think the GM mounts held the engine about 1/4" higher off the frame perches.
Idle vibration solved. 2002 2wd.
