Coolant/Heater Hoses Help

260 Views 12 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Summerjamsam
Hi there. Over the weekend, the radiator fan shredded up one of my coolant hoses! I'm having trouble finding exactly what hoses i need to get. (replacing a few as they are all old)
Could you guys help me identify what hoses these are or what generic hoses would fit?
Also, do any of these need a bracket so this doesn't happen again? What bracket would I use for the yellow hose? Thank you!

Bracket? This should never happen with the top of the radiator shroud installed. Unless perhaps you have some really bad motor mounts. Or the fan clutch is coming apart, or loose. One is a heater hose, the other is a top radiator hose.
That's my question. How in the world did this happen with the radiator shroud in place?
The upper shroud has a lip molded into it to prevent the radiator hose from getting too close to the fan and the heater hose is molded to stay away from the fan as well.
Be careful taking that heater hose off. Cut (peel) it off CAREFULLY after taking the clamp off because that valve doesn't like being handled very much. That plastic is VERY brittle.
Radiator hoses are vehicle specific.. every shop or online carries them.
Just look it up for your vehicle.

Heater hoses are often sold by the foot.
Remove the bad one, take to autoparts store, get a replacement.
Someone obviously removed the upper fan shroud and never replaced it.
Thank you everyone. I have the radiator shroud. It was removed to find out what's going on.
The last mechanic that worked on this must have left the hose under the shroud, which caused the hose to get punctured by the fan. (It was the hose marked in yellow)
I did have a mechanic install a new heater control valve a couple months ago. They would have been the last ones to handle that hose......(this just dawned on me as I'm writing the last paragraph!)

I thought there maybe was a bracket missing. It didn't even occur to me that my mechanic installed this wrong on the last repair!

Sure sounds like the last mechanic is to blame. Good reason to do your own work if at all possible. Personally I am better if I mess something up than if I paid someone else and they messed it up. :)

I try to here and there. But sometimes I don't have the time or knowledge. Hoping my mechanic will fix this for free :)
That's why it's always prudent to have a look around for yourself after you have work done.
Not always necessary to second guess someone's craftsmanship, but in this case.....

They should if it was recent.
