I have a 91 astro. Has anyone done an early to late dash/interior swap? There is a good deal on a late astro locally with a blown motor and I am thinking about getting it to do a front end swap and Maybe I will swap the interior as well!?

if im reading this right a dash from a newer van such as say a 98 will not fit a 91 without extensive mods to the doghouse and other areasbut thats only what I have read....

i've just completed a RHD conversion

Interesting. The same idea has crossed my mind but I think I'd better live with the van for a bit yet to be sure I really like it enough to go to that much trouble.

It's a bit, well, American :D

Between 85 and 95 a lot of changes were made that effected the "crashability" of these vans. The structural changes were made to improve frontal barrier impact testing, something that the Astro-Safari did poorly on in the Insurance Institutes ratings. NASTA rating were very important for GM, so the mods were done to improve the crush zones. Anything is possible in these babies from the "can do" attitude, just make sure that whatever mods you do, you recognize that you will be modifying the survivability of your occupants, OK if it is just you, however, being a van, its likely that there will be a trade off, and you may be putting your passengers in harm's way. Oh, and by the way, it is American, isn't it? (jk). If you doubt me, just ask any of the regulars on here, I retired from GM in 2003... :driving:

It wouldn't let me in to have a look which I'd be very interested in doing.

So i joined

I had a quick skim through your conversion - nice work. As with most things post 1970 the wiring makes it look worse than it is. I've got a dayvan so plenty of wood already - I'd build a new dash from timber and epoxy. I've got a fair bit left after the last motor cruiser I rebuilt.

Thanks for the info

Andy
