Hey - new to the forum. Long story, short form. I need to replace the catalytic converter assembly on my 1997 Safari AWD. Once I disconnect the O2 sensors, remove the supports, and unbolt from the manifolds and tailpipe, how to I get the assembly out? The cat is too wide drop down between trans and torsion bar (?) without twisting it. How do I maneuver the assembly to remove it? Thanks for any help!

Well look at that. I had no idea it was that tight. You can't twist it out....because it's on the ground? Or it wouldn't twist out even if lifted? I have to do mine in a few weeks so I am going to follow this post.

Not sure how much alike they are, but I replaced mine of my 2005 AWD this past fall.. I went with a 2 piece Bosal. I installed it in my driveway with the van up on jack stands set pretty high. Even in 2 pieces it was a bitch to get it up there. IMO there is no way I would have be able to fit a 1 piece system. IIRC up on a lift it's a lot easier to worm it in place. FWIW, another advantage of installing a 2 piece system is it gives you some extra play lining everything up. If any of the welds are off even a bit it can cause a problem. YMMV

It looks like the van is on the ground in the picture. If it is, you might get enough clearance with the wheels sagging down.
The front is in ramps- was replacing O2 sensor knowing I needed a new cat. Today’s plan is to put rear end on ramps and front on jack stands. Like you said, should have more clearance with wheels sagging. Whether it’s enough… Thanks for the advice

Did you manage to get that pipe out? I am in the process of replacing mine now...am I am starting to doubt I can pull this off.
