I have been pondering lately the possibility of putting a Duramax diesel v-8 in an Astro. I know the diesel is wider and taller than a small block v-8, but does anyone know approximately how much wider and taller? I figured a body lift would help get it in there, and if I use the 4l80e from a 3/4 ton van it might not be too difficult to mount the transmission. Any constructive thought?

There are Vans out there with 454 Big Blocks in them, so the Diesel V8 would be about the same challenge I bet. Of course either way you going to have to be good at fabricating stuff. The body lift would definatly help. Would be a very cool project & a killer sleeper Van.
