Is the dutch doors key suppose to be the same as my ignition and other doors(I only got one key with my Van)? Mine isn't....my key works for everything, but the dutch doors lock. The only way I can open the dutch doors is by the hatch pop button. I wanna figure out the key situation before that button ever thinks about taking a crap on me. :p

The key hole isn't corroded shut or anything as I can slide my old style one sided cut door key from my '92 in and out of that key hole.

So, I guess if the dutch doors are suppose to be the same key then looks like I need to get a new key lock or something? :banghead: OK...its not that big of deal.

Anyone know if my Van doesn't have keyless currently(didn't get a fob with it) can I just get a fob from the dealer or am I sh!t out of luck? Was it even a option in '96?

My 98 has one key for everything, including the dutch door. Also, you should be able to lock/unlock everything from the dutch door.
Don't know about keyless entry... you can look it up in your RPO code to see if you've got it. When I got my 98 I ran through the whole RPO to see what equipment I actually had. Here's a link to a look-up...

Ok....so it should work on everything now I know. Going to go give it some WD-40 and some force behind my key.

Ya, I need to look my RPOs up yet. Thanks.

My 97 key works for everything, which is good because I don't have a pushy button thingy to pop the dutch door.

AU0 or AX3 would be on your list if you have keyless entry.

My door key doesn't work in my dutch door, either. I've sprayed lock ease in there and nada. That's something to figure out later 'cause my hatch button does work.

Don't use too much force on the key 'cause you probably will bend it...don't ask me how I know...

Just throwing this out there but are you sure thats the door that came on your van? If everything ellse matches it might be a replaced door from a yard. PO may have said screw swapping locks the door popper works fine. might e as simple as popping the lock out and dropping by a locksmith. I have 2 doors on my 01 that the locks don't match my key. I'm 100% sure my slider isnt the original and I'm guessing atleast one of my barn doors isn't since those are the 2 locks I can't use my key on.

Before you go bending a key or breaking the lock might be worth it to pull the tumbler clean with WD40 if it needs it or bring it to a smith to check out.

Ya I'm going to wait until I have money to throw at it and get the lock redone by a lock smith until then we are just dealing with having to walk to the front of the Van and pop it. :D

whatever your solution to restore normal operation, i suggest that you create an inside "emergency" liftgate release. take the handle and trim off, and you'll see the mechanical arm that the actuator attaches to. attach or wrap something around the top of that arm, that you can pull (to the left) and pop the liftgate in the event of any electrical failure. some folks use a cable or wire system, i just loosely looped a heavy zip-tie around the arm, cut a groove in the trim to keep it straight and in place, and done. since it isn't connected to the arm it does not move or interfere with normal operation.

it's just as easy to go in through the side door and pull the zip-tie as walking to the drivers door and hitting the dash button. and no further wear on the actuator, too.
