I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on the size/cfm needed from an electric fan to properly cool the 4.3? On another forum I was reading 4000-5000 cfm which makes sense to me if I was running a 350 or some other V8. I would think a V6 like the 4.3 would be cool, no pun intended, with 2500-3000cfms. Any opinions would be appreciated.

I did a electric fan conversion without a thermostat control using a 4500 CFM and it kept temp down all the time which the computer didn't like. MPG was down, and never really ran right. Went back to the clutch fan. However on my new (old) 94 I plan on doing what several others have done using a thermostat control.
Now that they use them on so many manufactured vehicles a electric fan properly installed makes it easier to get at the rest of engine in front.

Just my 2 cents. I got a dual core aluminum racing radiator. A durango 360 electric fan. I dont know what the CFM is. In winter I got the fan on all the time. I got mine running anytime the engine is running.
In winter it always up to temp and I have no problems.

In 110 degree summer temps I can idle with the air on forever.
It does still get warm if I do 70 on the freeway for 20 minutes then go straight to stop and go traffic. But as soon as it moving it comes right down to 195 or so.

The 18 ford fan I'm running keeps my v8 with a stock 5/8ths radiator plenty cool on thermostatic control, it would easily take care of the 4.3 without running it too cold, as you have a 2 speed motor with these fans. The high speed is controlled by either a switch on the dash, or your A/C switch.
