Electrical Issues - Rear Lights not working

Hi all - great forum you have running here.

I have a '92 Safari that has all sorts of electrical issues - I'll try to make this as simple as possible, starting from the most recent problem:
1) This evening, the rear lights stopped working. The rear brake and reverse lights work, but the regular lights that go on when the lights are turned on no longer work. Also, the lights on the instrument panel stopped working.
2) From time to time the front lights turn on (by themselves - even though the switch is off) and remain on - this is a rare occurence.
3) Electrical locks sometimes decide not to work, but after fiddling around with them for a few minutes they usually come back to life.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

check all fuses and grounds as far as rear lights might be bulbs themselves not the fillament but the connection try using some electrical grease in the plug that might fix them i had that problem on an old truck of mine took me 2days and 150 bucks to figure out it was the plug getting loose
