Can anybody tell me where the factory amp is in a 2000 astro?
I installed rear speakers and Crutchfield told me that the factory amp only pushes lows (bass) to the rear speakers, they suggested removing the amp.

Crutchfields original directions said it was located in the right rear trim panel - When I called them they said it was behind the panel that is in front of the drivers side rear wheel well.

I would look there but my van is a conversion and it's not easy to get into.

Crutchfield is right. I bypassed mine and replaced the 6" stock speakers with some Polk's

I noticed the wires on the amp change color from the ingoing to the outgoing - When you bypassed it did you just figure out what leads are from where and splice them together?

I did this and I'm not overly impressed with the sound of the rear speakers - I put some Kickers in the back door and they don't sound as good as the smaller Blaupunkt's that I have in the front.

Another thing I thought was strange, I cut all the wires from the amp harness and the rear speakers still worked - They sounded very tinny but still worked.

I confess I didn't pay attention to the speaker wires changing colors, I just assumed the wire with the black stripe was negative. I find it odd that your are still getting sound from the speakers, maybe it's your pillar speakers you hear?

I have a 97 conversion van and the amp is on the left side infront of the rear wheel well. I disconnected it at the rear pillar speakers and do not use it or the rear door subs. I added an amp for the four high's and a second for the sub.
