We've owned our Astro van since 2000 and sadly we were rear ended on the freeway last week. The insurance company will likely total the van even though it is only the dutch doors and the bumper which are damaged. I might cash out the van and then by it back as salvage if I can replace the dutch doors and bumper myself. The prices for doors seem reasonable at several salvage sites. Questions, if anyone can help: Is it correct that doors from 1995 on are the same and fit all models to 2005? How difficult is it to swap doors? What all do I need to replace bumper? What is the bumper "cover" as compared to the bumper? Any references for where to get used parts? I'm in No. California. Found a place in AZ (Auto Recycling Mall) that will ship doors for $100 and charge me $150 for each door. Anyone heard of them? I think I can replace doors and bumper for under $800 and the estimate was for $3800 (but also included much paint work and R&I work). Thanks for any help ya'll. I've owned Astro's since 1990 and they have done us well!

I would check out a U-Pull-It nearby. They're only $40 for the shell and $70 for a complete one here. I'm not too sure about the year differences but some one should be able to chime in and help on that. The bumper should be an easy fix but you may need to do some "frame" work. Mounts are probably bent but who knows. Pics are a big plus 'round here. The "cover" just covers the bumper.
But it also ties all the moulding together. I'm sure the bumper mounts don't differ too much over the years but don't take my word for it. How is the glass in the back? And the 3rd "door"? Best to take some pics and post them.

There is so many of them in the scrapyards nowadays. You should be able to find ones that are the same colour and no need to paint if they are in decent shape. When someone hit my bumper in a parking lot I bought a new bumper in a box for about $100, the colour matching cover from the scrapyard $20, and new nuts n bolts and washers $12 from a proper fastener supply store for the correct grade (very important, absolutely necessary if you have a hitch!)(make sure the washers are the correct grade as well!).

While the hitch was out I sandblasted($8 for crushed glass) and galvanized it($11). The old bumper had rust holes in it so it needed to be replaced anyway, this happened in '05. The new one came with black primer so I scuffed it real good and painted it with a can of gloss black wheel paint that was kicking around.

$151 and it's better than new was.
