I have been asked about my van with the 255 tires and if they rubbed and if i had any pics of my van so now i do and as for the rubbing part my van is stock height with factory wheels i still have about 90% of my turning radius and the only part of the tire that rubs is the sway bar at the front of the tire and the little part of the frame showing at the rear of the tire but the only way to make them rub is if you turn it just about as far as you can but driving around town and on dirt roads i've never had a problem with them

Thanks for sharing the info and pics. Those wide tires look really good on there. Thats a 1" height difference to the stock tires too.
Hows is your rear door clearance?
Your Van looks very clean too! :cool:

I have no problem with the sliding door it opens all the way it looks clean in the pic but the paint on it is shot when i got it. it had been under a car cover for 6 years and it pretty much took all the the paint off the roof

I have posted this info before. Here it is again for new members;

My 1998 AWD Astro has been running 255/60/15 tires on stock rims for years, Firehawk and Khumo. No rubbing anywhere and the sliding door clears them. The limited turning radius of an AWD might be helping here . . .

The problem is not rubbing only... A speedometer is basically counting tire rotations and multiplying by the distance it travels in each rotation. A smaller tire should result in a lower actual speed than the speedometer indicates, because it travels less far each rotation than the speedometer believes.
The original manufacturer specified tires size for Astrovan is: 215 75 15
Your new tires size is: 255 70 15
Changing your wheels/tires will affect your speedometer reading, with your new combination your speed will be 4.9% greater than indicated ( think also about the police speed radar)... when your speedometer reads 30mph you will actually be doing 31.5 mph, when your speedometer reads 60mph you will actually be doing 62.9 mph unless you will recalibrate your speedometer with the new size combination...
The only one size will not increase your speed, but will decrease it 1.1% and you don't have to recalibrate your speedometer is: 225 70 15 Just checked on the below-mentioned website:

Just to throw this out there. A 255/60r15 has a tire height of 27.05" while the OP's 255/70r15 has a tire height of 29.06". I would be surprised about his tires fitting without any rubbing.

I guess I should admit that my speedo runs a little fast. At 70mph I think it is actually about 68. Two miles off has not been a problem, so far.

Honestly if the speedo on my Van was off a little it would be the least of my worries with my Van............... :lol:

I'm hoping to find some cheap 235/75/r15 tires on rims already on craigslist.com and see how much rubbing I get. Its just awesome the OP got 29" tires on there and is doing alright with minimal rubbing.

You would get a gear speedo kit for the 700R4. It will come with several gears sets and instructions. The gears would install in the sending unit that the cable attaches to at the rear of the transmission.
