Front differential

Is my 1999 front differential the exact same as my 2002 front diff? Both vans have GU6. The plan is to send the 1999 down to Georgia to have limited slip installed. Then put it in the 2002. Also I'm thinking the axels have to come out to pull this diff.

Yep, same same.
The aluminum differentials do not fair well with any type of posi/locking differential from everything I have read they wear out much faster due to the aluminum. One of the sites I read here: https://www.outfitterdesign.com/ultimat ... -info.html
Did any Astro/Safaris come with cast iron front diff or were they all aluminum?

Also - are S10 front differentials interchangeable?
All aluminum on astrosafari's

I think s-10 diffs are pretty much interchangeable. All the deets are on threads in here somewhere about ppl adding limited slips up front. User captn.crunch (sp?) kinows all about it.

Finally have the cast iron (LSD) differential in. Came out of a Envoy. LSD installed by Jeff in Georgia. At the same time I replaced steering box. (Blue top) upper and lower controller arms. Idler arms tie rod ends (all links) All Moog. New calipers and hubs. I finally have my answer. No you can’t tell that it’s a limited slip when doing normal driving. In rain or dry pavement. Took it up to the farm wet day tried to stomp on it to see how it went. Guess the hill wasn’t steep enough didn’t get all 4 spinning. Oh should mention 6 new General grabber AT tires. Stock size van not lifted. Have decided to leave the 233 c transfer case on the bench for a while. my 136 works like a charm. Oh and the van goes straight down the road now. No more wandering around.

The transfer case has nothing to do with whether your van drives straight.
All new steering components are a GREAT thing!
Got all new on my 92... working on my 2000 now.

None the less.. glad to hear it's all working out nicely for you.
Posi front and rear is the ultimate option!
Must have written it wrong. Just pointing out that I’m still AWD not 4x4 or lifted

Good job on the front differential.
I just noticed his website was down, good to hear he is still in business.
