Need some help here folks, the body mounts under my 86 shorty are junk. My sub frame is ready to go in with the new v8 and trans but energy suspension dose'nt list the mounts. Any one know the cross reference for these vans so i can complete the install. I was told S-10 but the upper and lower control arm bushings are different GM part numbers. I was also told Malibu/Monti-carlo but again the part numbers just don't line up. I just figured seeing as this is the single biggest knowledge base on these vans that someone has been here before and can help me with this.

As always Thanks....

Mat-I am confused.I too was shopping for body mounts.I looked at the Energy Suspension and then called the local Chevy dealership.I found I could still get them from them.$161.00 per side. The thing that I am confused about is Chevy lists three different part numbers for each position of the mounts.I don't know why and I too thought all of them are the same.Humm-wonder now if they are different???. I am not questioning you about the link-I hope you can advise on this issue.Thanks.

I was only responding to the OP about the part numbers he couldn't find on that site for them. If you look closely, it says Universal part with the dimensions given to match up with your old bushings (If they do match up). I wouldn't get anything personally unless I had the proper part numbers from the dealer or proper dimensions of the bushings being replaced. When I pulled my front off, it had a different bushing size for each location (front - middle - rear). I don't know if the 86 has the different bushings like mine has though.

If I had to take a guess, I would say one style is for AWD another for 2WD and maybe another style for a Towing Package, but that's just a guess. I know I have 3 different front coil spring styles available for my year alone. I'm sure that would fall under the possibilities of why their are 3 different types. You may just want to run your VIN number first at a dealership or maybe have look at the RPO code sticker the vehicle has, and see if those codes show anything about the bushings their. I can't find "anything" about the Isolator Bushings anywhere with my sources for that year, and maybe that's the reason why, to many variables to list. Just a thought. Hope this helps. :)

Hmm, and he still gave you 3 different types to choose from after the VIN was given? Well that pretty shoots those ideas out of the water then.

I haven't a clue why GM does this. Honestly speaking, if their are that many different types to choose from and nothing in the RPO codes, then I would try to match up what's currently on the vehicle then (Dimension wise). I know you have the V8 swap in it, but that shouldn't really affect the isolator bushings that much as it's "Un Sprung" weight relating to body and sub-frame.

Torque might be something to take into consideration, but I'm sure you can adjust that with different coil springs if need be. The automatic transmission will absorb most of it. The best person to ask would remark123, he assembled these vans at the factory before closing down. He might be able to shed some light on why their is so many variables when it comes to Isolator bushings. Just a thought.:)

One thing I do know is, if you buy the POLYURETHANE bushings, make sure they are the Graphite injected ones. There has been a lot of problems with the ones that aren't with Squeaks - Creaks - and Groans to them.
A lot of complaints with the non-injected ones.:)

I found that the upper body mounts are different given the 3 positions and the bottom mounts are all the same.

Position 1 is part number 15601755

Position 2 is part number 15990552

Position 3 is part number 15183802

The bottom 6 of them is 155950054

www.GMpartsdirect.com

has all the part numbers listed except for 15990552 and I am waiting for a answer about that one.Found that getting the parts from the above link is about 1/2 the price at the dealership.

Hi Gary
That's good information to know. It seems to be a conveniently over looked item when it comes to getting any information on them from my regular sources. Learn something new everyday, Thanks.:)
