hi guys, here's my problem, 01 astro, 96 k original fuel pump. i think it s*** itself. turn key on, don't hear nothing. no fuel pressure at all on the rail. i figure it's the fuel pump.how hard is it to change? my van has the california emmisions on it. do i need any special tools to do this job? i've looked on a few web sites and they show 2 different types of fuel pumps for this van. any and all help is appreciated. thanks in advance.

Be SURE you are getting volts to the fuel pump. Check relay and wiring.

In the future, keep at least 1/4 tank of fuel in tank, any less I can hear my pump screamin. Remember the fuel keeps the pump cool.

Replacin pump is not a difficult technical problem, but one hell of a logicstical problem when droppin the tank etc.

when your fuel level is low, that is the best time to drop your tank. disconnect the fuel pump harness, which will probably be along the drivers side towards the front. other than that, diconnect your rubber lines underneath, unbolt the 2 straps, and voila your tank is off. don't forget to jack it up high enough, AND BLOCK IT, so that you have enough room to pull it out from under the van.

You probably replaced it already but I'd thought I mention to avoid buying carter fuel pumps.
They just dont last. And they wont warranty it either. They give you a song and dance explanation
about why they wont warranty it but basically their pumps just dont last.
