We have a Garmin Zumo 550 for on the motorcycles. They are great and easy to program. Garmin also has exelent customer service. My brother had something happen to his unit and they sent him a whole new one in only a week. Plus they gave him a new warrenty for another year from the time he received his new machine.

Hi Guys,

Your feedback is appreciated ;)

A while ago on the news was a story of a Guy who was following the instructions on his GPS and ended up having a head-on collision in a one way street ... so, don't always rely on your GPS and keep an eye on one way streets though . . .

Anyways, the Garmin 350 is for sale @ Costco and I'll get one this weekend!!

Cheers,

I have TomTom software for my Palm TX. The maps are some 4 years old so finding places in new developments can be a problem. I've also used a Garmin 350. Since I'm used to my TomTom, I sort of prefer it.

I see GPS as a great guide but let common sense rule.

I have a ton of experience with several different GPS units. I could write a book but don't really have the inclination to do so here.
I'll try to keep it short. The #1 feature you NEED is the text to speech feature. This means that the GPS speaks the street names not just "bear right", "turn right" ect. It will say "in 500 ft turn right on hwy 99 north". This lets you keep your eyes on the road not on the GPS. You won't even need to look at the screen just listen for the prompts.

Now pay attention to the features that the GPS offers. There are so many models that it can be hard to figure out what is what. I have become a big fan of the Garmin stuff. I was not always a fan as their early GPS units required a lot of technical understanding to use. The user interface on the new units is incredible and easy to use. My wife who is a total technophobe figured the Garmin out in just a couple of minutes without my teaching her how it works. I don't know how else I can tell you how easy the new Garmins are to use.

Now as far as what model to buy you might want to go to Garmin.com and use the compare feature to figure out the difference in the models. I will tell you that the 360 has text to speech and some Bluetooth technology for hands free calling. In the real world you will probably not use the Bluetooth. This being said see if you can get the 350 for less money as it is the same unit just without Bluetooth.
I don't know where you live but if you live in Canada the best deal I have seen is at "The source by circuit city". Yeah I know the old "Radio Shack". I couldn't believe it myself but they have the Nuvi 650 on sale for $349.00 CDN. In my opinion this is the best deal around right now. With the internet it is easy to shop around without wasting any gas driving all over town.

This unit is upgradeable and will accept maps for almost anywhere in the world. It also has a MP3 player and a few other cool tools for traveling like a currency and unit converter. It is a wide screen model which some people like but I'm neutral on that feature as I don't want to look at the thing while driving.
Good luck and let me know if you have any specific questions I might be able to answer.
Rocke.

Yes the old garmins sucked. You had to figure out how to load the maps first, then you had to figure out how to use the garmin to get from A to B.

I really like the USB one though. I know there are other usb gps's that allow you to use many different programs, but that garmin one coming in at a little over a hundred, its a good deal. :2cents:
