That's not normal! Do you have spark @ ALL the plugs? I once had an oil pump seize on me RIGHT AT #1 firing position. When I'd crank it, it would open & close the points making spark @ #1 plug. The rotor wasn't turning, so I get nothing at the other 5 plugs.
Check the other plug wires, make sure it's timed correctly, make sure you have NEW PLUGS, (I've fouled sets in the driveway troubleshooting, 0 miles). If you DON'T have spark @ all 8, and the cap/rotor/wires are good, I'd suspect the module under the rotor has gone bad.
1 more thing- do you have a known good coil to try? :chevy:
