Hi thaddius_glen and welcome aboard. When you say it feels like someone put it in neutral and back into overdrive is the engine dying and picking back up or is the tranny kicking in and out? If the transmission is kicking in and out the motor should rev up when it happens. Have you got a check engine light? Have you had the fuel pressure checked? When it dies does it start right back up? Sorry for all the questions but I am just trying to get a good understanding of your problem.

I may be wrong but I don't think the transmission problem and the engine dying problem are related. Have you checked the transmission fluid level? When was the last time you changed the transmission fluid and filter? As far as the engine dying when you touch on the gas petal I would think it would be fuel pressure or ignition related. What brand of tune up parts did you use? I just found out the hard way to use ac-delco tune up parts. I am sure you will get more input from other members.

My 1995 GMC Sierra recently was doing something similar . . .
Driving along, everything good. Suddenly acts like it is in Neutral.
When it slows down it drops into 2nd. I stopped. Checked each gear.
Park = OK
Reverse = OK
no 1st, 3rd, or OD
Limped home in 2nd. Called around and got the usual "needs a rebuild".
Did some research and found out that my pick-up has a 4L60E trans.
The "E" means the only way it shifts is by computer command,
through a large connector on the side of the trans.
It gets 90% of its info for shifts from the speed sensor on the tailshaft.
And the kicker . . . Limp-home-mode is 2nd gear!
I cleaned the connectors (both) and found a little trans fluid (very slight rear seal leak).
Fixed!!!

Thats great to hear! Good job at figuring out what is wrong instead of replacing parts and/or getting a mechanic. Don't get me wrong, I'm a mechanic by trade but I really think its great when people can fix their own vehicles.
