I have a 1997 Safari van. Love it. It has this annoying "feature" of hesitating in moist conditions. We have done everything we can think of, from full tune-ups (replacing wiring, etc..). Spent many hours and much $. Been seen by at least 3 GM dealerships and the problem still recurs. I have tried gas line anti-freeze which I sometimes think has an effect. My regular dealership says this is a problem identified with this van with no cause or solution yet found. Any suggestions?

I think everyone has had this problem at one time or another. I was told that mine was due to a vacuum leak. I replaced a lot of vacuum hoses and did all the electrical replacements I could think of and it just went away one day. Wish I knew what exactly fixed it but I don't know.

If its hesitating while your getting on the gas (maybe half way or flooring it) then its a leak in the intake after the mass air floor sensor. When i put on my intake i poped out the metal peice that houses the Mass air flow sensor and when i floored it it would shift bad have NO power and would sometimes shift at 6K! so check the rubber tubing that connects to the Mass air flow sensor for leaks. Just a thought

I work for a GM dealer, and see this problem regularly.

It is an issue with the mass airflow sensor. This is what you do:
Remove the sensor
Remove the 4 torx bolts that hold it together
Take the 3 pieces apart, but note the direction everything goes back together
On the center peice, you will see 2 or 3(depending on the model) very small resistors. DO NOT TOUCH THEM WITH FINGERS OR SCREWDRIVER! They are very delicate and will break easily!
Spray them with brake parts cleaner and gently clean them with a Q-tip.(the back side of them will be really dirty)
Assemble the pieces exactly how they came apart and re-install.
Start up the van and be amazed at the power it has now.

Oh,yeah...when the dealer told you about "known problem with no solution as of yet...", that is dealership lingo for "we haven't got a f*****g clue, but we don't want to look stupid!

I'll admit that I have had to use that line once or twice in my career.
