I had a hard time with this project and ended up removing a lot of things that weren't necessary,
like the passenger and drivers side mirrors.
HUH?????

It's a lot of work for a vehicle of questionable value. I spent the entire project wondering why I just didn't keep driving it.
I pull engines and transmissions and enjoy the work, but changing the motor-mounts in an AWD is the one job I passed on, and paid someone else to do it. It was when I couldn't even see them.. I passed.

I didn't really remove the mirrors but wished I would have after hitting my head on them a few times. As far as the space I gained between that tube and that pan it was only about 3/16. Not sure if I did things right using duralast parts but I do wish I would have added spacers somewhere. I also replaced the transmission mount and had to lower the crossmember for that.

Not sure why you'd say you removed them when you actually didn't.
Mine I just fold in

I've never had to lower the crossmember to change the trans mount.. just jack the trans up a little and it comes right out

Just said it as a joke, sorry for your confusion. My Canadian friend knew that wasn't a steering link but on this site it's the best way to get a response. Sure glad your here.

The reason I said steering link in stead of the front AWD axle shaft was because I having a worn pitman arm hole where the the center link bar connects. So in my mind the steering things were primary concern.
While I was under looking at linkages noticed that axle shaft is pressed to the oil pan.

The part of having a hard time removing the rear transmission mount, I can relate to it.
My transmission has a motor sticking out where the mount should come out.
I lifted the tranny to the max, even raised the body a bit, it still wouldn't clear the mount bolts.
The way I managed to squeeze it out was by using a pry bar to push the tranny end side ways while raising it just enough to be able to pry out the mount with another bar.
The other option would have been to undo the cross bar which I did not want to do.
