Hello all. I need to replace the intermediate shaft on my RWD 1994 Safari. Do I need to pull either the steering box or column to get it out or will it collapse enough to get it out? Also will a shaft from a 97 fit into my 94? Thank you for the help.

It is supposed to collapse telescopically enough, but,
I am not finding the page I saw this information by chance some time ago now.
Thanks for responding. I did a search of old threads but I didn't find much about it. I was hoping it would collapse enough. I just wanted to know ahead if I was going to have to remove the column or steering box.

they all bolt on the same, but the length may be different, the best way to find out is to go to a junkyard and ask them to check on the computer if they are interchangeable though the years.

Yes that is what I did. The one they sold me was off a 97 but I wanted to confirm that as well before I tie into it. Thanks for replying.

Just an update. The shaft from the 97 did not fit my 94. It was too long. I took it apart and shortened the two pieces by an inch and then it was good to go. Also the original shaft came out without removing the column or dropping the steering box. Easy job.
