I'm sure that the concensus here will be that these puppies are illegal. I bought them on impulse for 10 bucks so... what the heck. What do you think?

It really depends on your City Ordinance on taillights. I would think if you put the right color bulbs in that any cop would give you a 5 day warning to change them out if they are illegal. OR just post on craigslist locally to switch them with regular lights....someone will want them.

this is the case where i live. you have to have some red reflective thing on the rear of the vehicle. its an easy fix if they dont. go get the red buttons that motorcycles hold their license plates on with and good to go. if any cop says that dosent fill code let them know that all city buses and school buses pass code with a reflective sticker strip on them.

Where did you get them and do they have anymore?
Company in california... Was ordering a body kit that they were closing out for $250 and he offered the lights for $10. I'll be glad to give contact info to anyone who wants it. Send me private message.

I guess that it depends on the cop. Had good and bad luck with cops lately. (got shook down for suspected drug smuggling for nearly 2 hours on Valentines night in my Astro this year. Pulled over for a burned out tag light. My Astro was clean and stock and I look conservative as heck - 40s, short hair, no tats, no piercings, well-dressed. Cop saw my concealed carry permit and have to get background check, fingerprinting and anal exam for that. Still he tore my astro interior up hoping to find drugs while I stood on the interstate freezing. Also been let go for speeding while driving sporty cars. You never know!

I don't have them in my hands yet, so can't attest to the internal reflectors and such. I do like the unique look and would like to use these lights.

As long as the reflective material is there and you use the correct color bulbs, you should be ok. Around here, people will change the colors and get into trouble that way. A friend of mine made the brake lights blue, got rear-ended and then sued because of the wrong color.

A cop can only search you/your vehicle if you give him permission or if your in his custody/under arrest. If a cop ask you to search your vehicle just say NO. We have a lot of cops around here that will pull you over for making a U turn and then ask to search your vehicle. I don't care how anyone looks or dresses they shouldn't have to deal with cops asking them to search their car for no reason! :banghead:

The clear tailights arrived today. They included the red bulbs and a warning that they were not DOT approved. For Off-road and Show use only. I figured that much going in. I decided to mount one and have a look. I do really like the looks but not worth hassling with the cops over. For the ten bucks, I'll keep them but not for the backwoods of South Carolina. They did photograph poorly with and without a flash.

They do look nice, and for only $10, I'd have grabbed them too. Legal, schmegal, put them on for a car/van show, take them off for daily use.

p.s. Just noticed it was dredged up from many years ago. It's alive, it's alive, IT'S ALIVE!!!!
