Well in order to pass inspection they wanted me to replace the gasket at the exhaust flange after the cat and before the muffler. Well as usualthe nuts snapped off and drilling and pounding those super hardened studs out just wasn't happening. SO I ordered a Summit muffler and some clamps. I already had the 3 inch pipe. Now I figured that since the pipe in front of the muffler was 3 inch the one coming out of the muffler would be too. WRONG. Why does GM do these things? So I needed to find a correct coupler. So another order to Summit. Could have gotten it local once I found the part number. But the cost was more local for the coupler and clamps than Summit wit the shipping for the same darn thing. Pretty happy since that trash can of a muffler weighed a ton. And it does seem to have more power now. So good all around.

I have been using the summit fully welded turbo mufflers for years, great price , decent sound and so much lighter then the stock mufflers.

When I got my van in 2008 it needed a muffler, my buddy gave me from the cat back out of an Econoline that was getting crushed. I've replaced pipes around it as needed before and after the engine swap, but that muffler is still on there 35K and 14+ years later. It's a LOT ssmaller than a stock Astro unit, and doesn't sound too bad either.

The last time I saw something titled "I did a thing", someone turned a Barbie dream house into something out of a Tim Burton movie. It looked awesome.
Here's something a little related I found in another forum I am a member to for one of my other rides. HIs flange rusted off of the pipe, the rest of the pipe was good. The same thing happened to me 2 years ago with mine. If I had knew these existed or thought of doing the same then, I'd be $130 richer. They come in various sizes. They called it a flange delete since that's what they did.
